"The undertow and waves, the water is mischievous HA! I like how it misbehaves!"

My entry for the plushpile contest! (zoom in for better quality!) I'll write more about the process/thoughts below but first have this small piece I wrote for context! 



The first time Noelani ever entered the ocean, she was stunned by how alive it felt. Not just from the sea creatures who darted around or slinked on by, but just from the energy from it. Before she had visited the shore, her parents and friends all told her of how calm and peaceful the ocean was- but Noelani felt it was something more than that. Yes, it was tranquility, but also power. It sent shivers down her seams to think of how boundless it was. It felt a whole different planet than being on hard ground for no matter how fast or strong you were, you'd be at the mercy of the crashing waves. From the day she met it, she always loved the ocean, but she also had a deep respect of it. Somehow whenever she'd swim, perhaps in a lake or river -sometimes even a bath- it would feel like she was one with the water. Like in a strange way, she was connected to it. It would move with her, or warm her, or hold her close, if she asked it to. However, when she was in the ocean it was different- she still felt peaceful, but it did it's own thing. Sometimes it didn't listen to her, and she'd end up being tossed around in its fearsome waves. But it also danced with her. If she would flip, the water would flip too. If she would surf, the water would carry her. If she would dance, it would dance with her leading her in it's rhythm, Noelani as its heart, a beating drum. In a sense, though the stubborn mischief of the ocean would sometimes annoy her, she related to it. She would always be glad to have her friend in the tide.



this counts for day 8 of my paint a day !!!! i am well behind but I have like 9 big paintings in the making so i've been working on those!!!!!!! but i will draw some more speedpaints tonight and hopefully post them hehe
SO YES !!!! MY WISH WOULD BE FOR NOELANI TO HAVE AN AFFINITY WITH WATER !!! so like water manipulation, being able to shoot it in like bubble attacks or water bursts and like create it !!! (a bit like a pokemon?) but then the ocean has its own almost sentient energy, so she more 'communicates' with the ocean than 'manipulates'
(somewhat inspired by moana? though to clarify I came up with this idea before i watched it so i promise i'm not leeching off ideas !!!!)

WHEW. LETS JUST SAY THE PROCESS OF PAINTING THIS WAS A DAMN TRICKY ONE. if I learnt anything from painting this, it's that WATER. IS. SO. HARD. TO. PAINT. i made a gazillion thumbnails for this rip me. i am trying so hard to get better at painting fur/plush textures, i will not lie to you now though, while making this and and upcoming painting (im still struggling with it so its a wip)

the moana soundtrack got me through it though !!!!!!! HONESTLY I HAVE BEEN LISTENING TO IT NON STOP IT SUPER INSPIRED ME THE WHOLE TIME and just like moana i am inlove with the ocean
