Fun fact:

In Shinto, deer are thought of as messengers or vehicles of the kami (like Ōkami) but deer are not exclusive to kami of the mountain. This is why deer are permitted to wander freely through certain Shinto shrines, like the Kasuga Shrine in Nara.
